1995 Elizabeth II 'The 50th Anniversary of the End of the Second World War' Circulated £2 Coin

£24.99

Description

This £2 coin dated 1995 was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the historic occasion of Victory in Europe Day on 8 May 1945, the moment Nazi Germany formally surrendered and peace was declared in Europe.

The event inspired jubilant celebrations across the world, with crowds gathering to sing and dance in cities such as London, New York, Paris and Moscow.

Designed by John Mills, the reverse features a dove holding an olive branch as a symbol of peace, an image the artist described as “a calm, bountiful and optimistic” tribute to post-war hope. The coin’s edge inscription reads “1945 IN PEACE GOODWILL 1995”, reinforcing its message of reconciliation and remembrance.
